Antonio Selected for CAA Committee

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston women's soccer freshman Bella Antonio was selected to represent Charleston on the CAA Family - United for Change executive committee.
Antonio was just one of six student-athletes from the conference selected to this committee along with other coaches and administrators across the league. This committee serves to address issues plaguing our nation and how this group can create meaningful change across their campuses.
"I want to help that cause. I am committed to being a part of this amazing group, and I have a strong desire to bring about positive change within my community," says Antonio on her decision to join the committee.
The United for Change mission statement is to take action against systemic racism, sexism and discrimination in the spirit of respect, acceptance and understanding; to find alignment and affect change within each CAA campus in terms of promoting education, building relationships and sharing best practices in order to create a safe environment for all CAA student-athletes, staff and coaches, regardless of race, gender, sexuality or religion.
After an impressive rookie season on the pitch, Antonio is hoping to make an impact on the Charleston community as well.
"My Charleston experience has empowered me to apply for this position because every day I see people continuously trying to find ways to better our community," said Antonio. "I believe that being involved in this committee will help me bring more ideas on how we can improve together."
As a student-athlete representative, Antonio is able to provide her unique perspective on how the conference can effectively address racial and social injustice and inequality.
"I hope to bring to this committee an alternative view on the issues we discuss and my problem-solving abilities that can help find alternative solutions," said Antonio.
In her first season in a Charleston uniform, Antonio was the Cougars' leading goalscorer. Now, she seeks to lead the CofC campus in an effort for change. Antonio will have the opportunity to collaborate with other members of the league to make a difference within the league and across all 14 school campuses.
"I am most looking forward to meeting new people and hearing about how they have helped bring change to their communities," said Antonio.
