CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston returns home for the first of a five game homestand when old in-state rival Wofford comes calling in a Tuesday tilt from Patriots Point. Charleston looks to rebound after dropping their first CAA series of the season while Wofford comes in off a series win over Siena in Spartanburg.
Â
Tuesday's matchup is the first in Charleston since the 2012 season when the Cougars were members of the Southern Conference and just the second meeting since the 2013 season. Wofford won the 2021 midweek matchup 12-5 in Spartanburg.
Â
Wofford was picked to repeat as SoCon champions in the preseason poll, the first team on Charleston's schedule in 2023 tabbed a preseason favorite in a conference. The Cougars were also tabbed preseason favorites grabbing nine of the 11 possible first place votes by their CAA peers.
Â
Charleston plays their first home midweek contest since a two-game sweep of Longwood March 7-8 while Wofford plays their fourth-straight road midweek and fifth overall.
Â
Scouting the Terriers
- Wofford enters the game 20-7 overall and 2-1 in SoCon play having taken a series over Siena in Spartanburg over the weekend. After starting the season 0-1, the Terriers ripped-off a 17-game win streak picking up wins over Southern Illinois, UNC Asheville, Kent State, Winthrop, Sacred Heart, Michigan State and Cincinnati.
- Wofford sports the No. 19 team batting average in the NCAA (.315) with six individuals batting at least .300 on the season and leads the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Terriers have the fifth-most steals (82) in the NCAA and rank ninth in on-base percentage (.437).
- Ryan Galanie leads the Terrier offense with a slash line of .451/.552/.794 and an OPS north of 1.300 on the season. Galanie also leads the team with eight doubles, nine home runs and 32 RBI while stealing a second-best 12 bases.
- On the mound, Wofford also paces the country in Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings (1.52) and have issued just 42 free passes over 247 innings of work.
- Tuesday starter Coulson Buchanan sits second on the team in ERA (4.12) with a 3-1 record over 10 appearances having tossed 39.1 innings and striking out 46 to just 10 walks allowed. His last outing saw the sophomore righty toss 7 innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10 and surrendering just one walk in a win over Presbyterian.

Â
Series History
- Charleston leads the all-time series 38-10 over Wofford but the two sides have only met once since the Cougars jumped to the CAA after the 2013 season. Prior to their departure from the Southern Conference, Charleston held a 15-game win streak over the Terriers sweeping five-straight series between 2008 and 2012.
- Wofford won the last meeting 12-5 in Spartanburg, the first since Charleston had moved on to the CAA. Tuesday's matchup is the first in the Holy City since the 2012 season when the Cougars swept the series 5-1, 8-1 and 8-4.
- Tanner Steffy and Trotter Harlan had two hits each with Steffy driving in three on a home run, but a 6-spot in the first inning from Wofford proved to be enough in the 12-5 decision in 2021.
