
Charleston Turns Away William & Mary 2-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Fourth-seeded College of Charleston took their third 2-1 decision from sixth-seeded William & Mary Thursday afternoon to stay alive in the 2023 CAA Championships from Patriots Point.
Trey Pooser tossed six innings of one-run ball striking out five while Trotter Harlan and Luke Wood provided the RBI singles to give the Cougars a win. Cole Mathis tossed the final three innings striking out four for his first career save.
Charleston's win made it six-straight home wins over the Tribe dating back to 2021 and was their third 2-1 decision against William & Mary in 2023 alone – all three Charleston wins.

How It Happened
- Trey Pooser scattered seven hits across six innings striking out five and allowing just one run for his seventh win of the season.
- The senior Hanahan native picked up his second win over the Tribe this season, the second 2-1 decision of the three Charleston had against William & Mary.
- William & Mary broke the scoreless tie on a two-out single in the fourth after Pooser and Cory Wall traded zeros the first three frames.
- Trotter Harlan quickly tied it in the bottom half ripping a single through the left side to score Joseph Mershon and tie it 1-1 through four complete.
- Each side traded zeros in the fifth before Cole Mathis worked a leadoff walk in the sixth to start a rally.
- Luke Wood would single home Mathis for the go-ahead run, making it 2-1 Cougars.
- Mathis would close it out from there tossing the final three innings striking out four and inducing a flyout with the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

- Trey Pooser picked up his second win in as many seasons to keep the Cougars alive in the CAA Championships, shutting down Elon last season and William & Mary Thursday.
- Thursday was the third 2-1 decision with William & Mary in 2023, all three coming as Charleston victories.
- Charleston picked up their sixth-straight win at home against the Tribe dating back to 2021.
- Cole Mathis collected his first career save throwing the final three frames and striking out four.
- Mathis also scored the game-winning run coming home to score on Luke Wood's RBI single in the sixth that broke a 1-1 tie.
