
Charleston Readies for Home Contest Against Iona

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston women's basketball team is set to host Iona at TD Arena Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

OPENING TIP — CofC, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, opened the 2025-26 campaign 2-0 inside TD Arena last week. Charleston began the season in historic fashion, setting a program record with 135 points in a 135-41 route over Covenant College on Monday. Then on Friday, CofC defeated Charleston Southern 80-65 in a cross-town matchup.
Charleston looks to remain perfect on the year, and inside TD Arena, with a matchup against Iona at 4 p.m. on Friday. Charleston and Iona have only met twice, with both teams earning a win on the opponents' home court.
The Cougars return two starters from last years WNIT Super 16 squad, including the reigning CAA Player of the Year in Taryn Barbot.
CofC returns six key contributors from last year's team, while adding seven newcomers, including three key transfers in Tyja Beans (Western Carolina), Grace Ezebilo (Tyler Junior College) and Chynell Mitchell (UTRGV).
The 2024-25 Charleston women's basketball team set a record for the most wins in the program's Division I era with 25. Charleston also earned its first Power 4 win since 2009 with a 68-62 victory over Northwestern at the Hawk Classic on December 20, 2024.
AMONG THE NCAA — The Cougars currently have three players in the top-10 in nation their respective categories. Taylor Barbot is the only player in the country to record a triple-double and is also second in the nation in assists per game (9.5). Grace Ezebilo is tied for 3rd in rebounds per game (14.5) and Taryn Barbot is 4th in points per game (27).
As a team, Charleston is in the top-10 in four categories. The Cougars are 2nd in rebounding margin (31.5), 5th in points per game (107.5), 6th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) and 10th in scoring margin (54.5).
LAST TIME OUT — Led by Taylor Barbot's triple double, the College of Charleston women's basketball team earned an 80-65 win over Charleston Southern (0-2) in a crosstown matchup at TD Arena Friday afternoon.
Barbot's triple-double (14 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) was just the third triple-double in program history, and the first since Jada Logan accomplished the feat in 2022.
The January 25th home game against NC A&T will serve as the main celebratory night and commemorate the 50 years of the program's existence. The 1974-75 Charleston women's basketball team, which was the first-ever varsity squad, will be honored at the game.

On the young season, Middleton is averaging a double-double with 19 points per game and 10 boards per game. Naomi Barnwell, another graduate transfer, is also averaging double figures, having posted 28 points in her first two games. Iona was picked 6th in the 2025 MAAC Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, while graduate guard Ella Fajardo was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team.
MATCHUP HISTORY — The Cougars are 1-1 all-time against the Gaels, with both teams earning road wins. Iona's victory came in a six-point game in 1998, while Charleston's win came in dominant fashion last year, winning 77-41.

In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court.

- Moving forward, a valid ID is required to be scanned/swiped for each transaction.
- Vertical IDs will not be accepted at sales locations regardless of the individual's age.
- All ID checks will be handled directly by our Aramark concession partners at each stand. EPI staff will no longer check ID's or provide wristbands.
- No more than two (2) alcoholic beverages may be sold or served per transaction.
WHAT TO EXPECT — Fans will enter TD Arena at the Meeting Street entrance.
- Once inside, fans will be asked to take their belongings out of their pockets and place them in a bin. This includes phone, wallet, keys, etc.
- If you bring a bag compliant with the Clear Bag policy, your items can be placed in the bag.
- EPI security staff will provide guidance on when to walk through the magnetometer and assist in retrieving your belongings after you clear through the magnetometer.
