
Charleston Athletics Announces 2026 Hall of Fame Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 2026 College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame class has been selected and will be inducted on January 10, 2026.
This year's class includes baseball's all-time saves leader Brett Harker, equestrian's Cacchione Cup runner-up Hannah Mayer, and swimming record breaker Matthew Sherrier.
The ceremony will be held at the Rita Hollings Science Center starting at 10:00 a.m. Ticket information will be available at a later date.
2026 Hall of Fame Inductees
Brett Harker, 2003-2005 Baseball
Wearing No. 31, Harker pitched for the College from 2003 to 2005, going down as the best reliever in CofC history. He appeared in 78 games, posting a career record of 14-6 with a 4.08 ERA. His 29 career saves lead the program record book and are still tied for second all-time in the Southern Conference record book.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2005 draft by the Phillies, Harker was the 2005 SoCon Pitcher of the Year while earning All-SoCon First Team honors in 2004 and 2005. He ranked fourth in the NCAA in saves in 2004 and 2005 with 13 and 15 saves, respectively, helping the Cougars to their first NCAA Regional appearances in 2004 and 2005.
After spending four seasons with the Phillies organization, reaching the AA level, Harker was selected by the Florida Marlins in the MLB Rule 5 Draft. He played in both AA and AAA for the Marlins. Following his playing days, Harker served as the head coach at Furman University and Limestone University.
Hannah Mayer '09 - Equestrian
Mayer captured the 2008 National Reserve Title for the Cacchione Cup High Point Rider competition at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Nationals held at the Los Angeles (Calif.) Equestrian Center. This award designated Mayer as the second highest point rider in the country. She paved the way as the first Cougar in program history to earn the distinction at the highest level.
Mayer qualified for 2008 Nationals after competing head-to-head with other high point riders in Zone 5 Region 3. Each of the 31 regions throughout the United States sends their high point rider to Nationals to compete for the highly prized Cacchione Cup.
Mayer competed in open fences and open flat for Charleston in IHSA competition throughout her career.
Matthew Sherrier '12 – Swimming
One of the most decorated Cougar swimmers in program history, Sherrier ended his collegiate career with over 75 individual victories and two NCAA Championship "B Cut" times in the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle in 2011 He holds eight school records in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay.
Sherrier won five individual CCSA conference titles in the 500 yard freestyle (2010, 2011), 1650 yard freestyle (2010, 2011) and the 200 freestyle relay (20212) while being a key contributor to the 2009 and 2012 CofC championship teams. Additionally, he was named the CCSA Male Swimmer of the Year in 2011.
He holds the CCSA record in the 500 yard freestyle and 1650 yard freestyle and was named to the 2011-2020 CCSA All-Decade Team.
