
Women's Basketball Faces First Road Test

DURHAM, N.C. – The Charleston women's basketball team faces its first road test of the year as the Cougars are set for matchup at N.C. Central Tuesday night.

OPENING TIP — CofC, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, is 3-0 so far this year, with all three wins coming inside TD Arena. Charleston began the season in historic fashion, setting a program record with 135 points in a 135-41 route over Covenant College on November 3. Then on November 7, CofC defeated Charleston Southern 80-65 in a cross town matchup before earning a 75-44 win over Iona on November 14.
Charleston looks to remain perfect on the year as the Cougars hit the road for the first time this season with a matchup at N.C. Central at McDougald-McLendon Arena Tuesday evening. Charleston is 4-0 all time against the Eagles, which includes an 84-54 win at TD Arena last year.
The Cougars return two starters from last years WNIT Super 16 squad, including the reigning CAA Player of the Year in Taryn Barbot.
CofC returns six key contributors from last year's team, while adding seven newcomers, including three key transfers in Tyja Beans (Western Carolina), Grace Ezebilo (Tyler Junior College) and Chynell Mitchell (UTRGV).
The 2024-25 Charleston women's basketball team set a record for the most wins in the program's Division I era with 25. Charleston also earned its first Power 4 win since 2009 with a 68-62 victory over Northwestern at the Hawk Classic on December 20, 2024.

Taylor Barbot is one of only two players in the country to record a triple-double and is also 3rd in the nation in assists per game (9.3). Grace Ezebilo is tied for 2nd in rebounds per game (14) and Taryn Barbot is 2nd in points per game (28.3).

The January 25th home game against NC A&T will serve as the main celebratory night and commemorate the 50 years of the program's existence. The 1974-75 Charleston women's basketball team, which was the first-ever varsity squad, will be honored at the game.

N.C. Central is led by graduate forward Morgan Callahan. Callahan was named the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year and is averaging 7.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game through three contests. The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the MEAC Preseason Poll and had three additional players named to the Preseason MEAC All-Conference Teams. Sophomore guard Shakiria Foster was named to the second team, while graduate forward Aniya Finger and junior guard Aysia Hilton made the third team.

THE HARMONY FILE — The 2025-26 campaign is Robin Harmony's seventh as the head coach at College of Charleston. Harmony was named the program's eighth head coach on April 19, 2019 and has earned 98 wins, including back-to-back 20 win seasons at the helm.
In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court.
