Charleston Faces Coastal Carolina in First Midweek

2/17/2025 4:34:00 PM

CONWAY, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball hits the road for the first time in 2025 when it faces Coastal Carolina on Tuesday, Feb. 18. First pitch from Springs Brooks Stadium is slated for 3 p.m. with the game airing on ESPN+.

FIRST PITCH:
  • Charleston took two of three games from A-10 preseason favorite VCU to begin the 2025 season.
  • The Cougars run-ruled the Rams in seven innings in the first two contests by scores of 10-0 and 12-2. VCU kept CofC from the sweep with a 10-9 victory in the second game of Saturday's twin bill.
  • Graduate Avery Neaves was named the CAA Player of the Week, his second weekly honor during his time with Charleston.
  • In the leadoff spot, Neaves went 6-for-11 (.545 AVG), with nine runs, four doubles, three RBI, four walks and a 1.567 OPS. The outfielder scored three runs and had at least one double and one walk in all three contests against the Rams while reaching base safely in 10 of his 15 trips to the plate on the weekend.
  • Junior Jake Brink became the only Charleston pitcher in the last decade to throw back-to-back shutout starts on Opening Day after hurling five shutout frames in Friday's 10-0 win. Brink punched out five while allowing just three hits and one walk.
  • Charleston's five stolen bases on Opening Day were the most since the team swiped seven bags in 2006.
  • Graduate Will Baumhofer drove in seven runs on the weekend while redshirt junior Ethan Plyler brought home six.
  • As a unit, the offense outscored the Rams, 31-12, while batting .355 and drawing 18 walks.
  • Five freshmen made their collegiate debuts while four players appeared in a Charleston uniform for the first time.

SERIES HISTORY:
  • Charleston will face Coastal Carolina for the 54th time in program history on Tuesday. The Chanticleers hold a slim 27-26 advantage in the series and are 19-9 at home. CofC's last win at Coastal came on April 16, 2019, a 16-3 victory.
  • The team's last played one another in a home-and-home series in 2023, splitting the contests. CofC won 4-3 on Feb. 28 at home before losing 12-4 in Conway on April 19.
