CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 21 South Carolina Thursday evening at Patriots Point.
In front of a blistering 716 fans, the game was tied at half with both teams attempting four shots in the frame.
South Carolina scored the contest's lone goal with just nine minutes remaining in the second half to secure the victory.
Charleston totaled 9 shots and one on goal. Senior
Emma Wennar led the Cougars with five shots. Redshirt Sophomore
Caroline Fowlkes had the lone shot on goal for Charleston.
CofC defense was on attack tonight with sophomore goalkeeper
Ainsley Chunn playing all 90 minutes and recording a career-high eight saves. Chunn only allowed one goal after nine shots on goal by the Gamecocks. In the 2024 season, Chunn had 8 saves total.
The Cougars had a late corner kick immediately following USC's goal but ultimately came up short in the final minutes.
Charleston will return to action on Sunday, August 24 at High Point. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in North Carolina.
The Cougars return home September 4 to take on Wake Forest. This will mark the Deacons first appearance in Charleston since 2012.
