Jimmy Holton

Jimmy Holton

A former catcher and student assistant coach at CofC, Jimmy Holton will coach the program’s catchers and assist head coach Matt Heath with the pitching staff. He will also chip in coaching position players in several areas.

“I’ve never seen a young guy go from playing to coaching with that much wisdom,” Heath said. “Jimmy’s experience as a former assistant coach and player at The College will be incredibly valuable to our staff.”

Holton returns to his alma mater after spending the 2015 season as an assistant coach for crosstown rival Charleston Southern, where he worked primarily with hitters and catchers, while also coaching third base.

“I’m excited to start this next chapter of CofC Baseball under Coach Heath and help our program take that next step of making it all the way to Omaha,” Holton said. “The College and this baseball program means so much to me after having played and received my degree from CofC. I could not turn down the opportunity to come back to my alma mater.”

Prior to CSU, Holton served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Cougars as they won a CAA Championship title and advanced to the Lubbock Super Regional in 2014. He also assisted with the pitching staff, which set school records for wins and ERA.

As the team’s catcher from 2010-13, he was a member of two NCAA Regional squads and finished his career with 20 runs scored and 13 RBIs. Holton made 553 putouts behind the plate with 68 career assists for a .989 fielding percentage over the course of four years.

A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Holton graduated from CofC with a bachelor’s degree in public health in 2014. A two-time team captain his junior and senior years at Cardinal Newman High School, he was named to the All-Area First Team, while leading the county in home runs and RBIs as a senior.
