Andrew Goudelock scored 13 points and Jermaine Johnson scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while the College of Charleston used a smothering first half defensive performance to down Southern Conference foe and rival The Citadel, 69-46, before 3,233 at McAlister Field House on Monday. It was the Cougars' 11th straight win over the Bulldogs.
Charleston, which led 32-9 at halftime, improved to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in league play. It was the fewest points allowed by the Cougars in an opening half since claiming a 34-8 halftime advantage over Campbell en route to a 65-39 win on Jan. 29, 1998 at John Kresse Arena. The Citadel fell to 5-11 and 0-7.
Johnson, a junior, recorded his eight double-double in the past 11 games and the 16th of his career overall.
Goudelock, a freshman, was making his first collegiate start. Goudelock hit 5-of-9 from the field including 3-of-5 from 3-point land. Dustin Scott added 11 points and seven rebounds for Charleston.
The Citadel was paced by Tyrell McDowell's game-high 14 points. Austin Dahn added 10 points and six rebounds.
Charleston shot a season-high 59.2 percent from the floor, including 62.5 percent in the second half. The Citadel's 30.0 percent shooting for the game was a season-low for a Charleston opponent.
The Cougars play host to Wofford in a 7:00 start on Thursday at Kresse Arena.
