
Cougars Set to Host Clemson Monday, Nov. 16

The College of Charleston women's basketball team opens its 2009-10 home season Monday, Nov. 16, against Clemson. The game, set to tip-off at 7 p.m., will be held at the 5,100-seat Carolina First Arena, where the Cougars went 12-2 last season.
Clemson heads to Charleston for the first time since Jan. 5, 1995, with the Tigers coming away with the 81-27 win. The Tigers and Cougars are knotted at 8-8 in the all-time record, with Clemson having taken the last game, a 64-42 decision Nov.13, 2006, at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, S.C.
Charleston enters the contest with a 0-1 record after falling to the fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, 88-75, in action Nov. 13. Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) led the Cougars with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) followed with 11 on the night.
Clemson is 1-0 after defeating Furman, 68-48, this past Friday. Lele Hardy led the Tigers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Shaniqua Pauldo followed Hardy with 17 points. Clemson held Furman to just 29.1 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Paladins 56-44.
The Cougars were picked to finish third in the Southern Conference by the league coaches, as well as the SoCon media. Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) and Hughes were named to the Coaches All-Conference Pre-Season team.
