
Cougars Set to Face Bears and Roadrunners in Lowcountry Women's Classic

The College of Charleston women's basketball team, fresh off its 68-55 win over the Clemson Tigers this past Monday, will face back-to-back games Friday and Saturday with the Cougars travelling up the road to Charleston Southern to face Mercer Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the CSU Fieldhouse and then returning home to host Texas San Antonio Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Carolina First Arena. It is all part of the Lowcountry Women's Classic hosted by the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
The Mercer Bears are 0-1 and are coming off a 108-66 loss at Oklahoma Nov. 13. Leading Mercer was Lindsey Lowrie with 16 points. Courtney Ford posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mercer enters the game with a slight 7-6 advantage in the overall series against the Cougars. The two teams last met in Macon, Ga., with the Bears coming away with the 68-42 win.
Texas San Antonio is 1-1 coming in the Classic and will face Charleston Southern Friday before the Cougars host the Roadrunners Saturday. UTSA opened the season with a 71-60 loss at Texas before rebounding with a home 86-32 win against Schreiner. UTSA is led by Judy Jones with 13 points, while Ashleigh Franklin paces the team in rebounds with 11.5. This will be the first meeting for the Cougars and Roadrunners.
Charleston, 1-1 on the year, is coming off a historic win over the Clemson Tigers Nov. 16. The Cougars defeated the Tigers, 68-55, to give them their first win over an ACC school in Division I history. It was also the first win over Clemson since a 72-63 decision in the 1978-79 season. Tonia Gerty scored 22 points to lead the team, which was just one shy of her career-high. Deidra Jones also posted 13 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth career double-double. With 12 points against Clemson, Jade Hughes became the 23rd CofC player to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
