The College of Charleston women's basketball team returns from the holiday break to host cross-town rival Charleston Southern Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Carolina First Arena.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.

CofC holds the 46-8 record over the Bucs, but the series has been a close affair since 1997-98, as the Cougars are just 4-7 in the last 11 meetings.

The Cougars are 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Conference after a 68-61 win over Western Carolina in their last game, Dec. 21.  Charleston trailed at the half but rallied in the second to earn its fourth straight win.  Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) led the team with 14 points, while Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) added 13.

Two Cougars are averaging double-figures in scoring so far this season with Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) leading the way at 12.0.  Gerty follows with 11.5, while Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) leads the team in rebounds with 7.8 a game.

Charleston Southern is 6-4 overall and has been idle since a 66-51 win over Savannah State Dec. 22.  Katie Tull led the Bucs with 15 points, while Lakeitha Alston paced the team with eight rebounds in that game.

Three Bucs average double-figure scoring with Tull leading the way with 17.8 a game.  Kelsey Wasmer averages 11.0, while Helen Terry follows with 10.2.  Ali Schwagmeyer paces the team in rebounds with 7.2 a game.

Charleston Southern is riding a two-game winning streak and has won its last three of four dating back to a 56-54 win at UNC Greensboro.  Charleston is riding a four-game winning streak, its longest of the season.

The Cougars opened the season with five straight home wins.  CofC looks for a record sixth win in a row at home in a season for the first time in Division I history when it takes on the Bucs.  Charleston has won 12 in a row at the Carolina First Arena, dating back to a 52-42 victory over Georgia Southern Jan. 19.

Following Charleston Southern, the Cougars embark on a three-game road trip beginning with a Jan. 2 nod at Chattanooga.  CofC takes on Samford Jan. 4 before heading to Georgia Southern Jan. 9.  The Cougars return home Jan. 11 to host Wofford in a 7 p.m. tilt.
