Head Coach Bobby Cremins
Speaking about the College of Charleston's 73-72 victory over Appalachian State
“A great Southern Conference game. We're very fortunate in the end that they didn't score. It was just an exciting game. We're still not ourselves and we didn't shoot the ball great. Andrew [Goudelock] didn't shoot the ball great and he has spoiled all of us, especially me. We had trouble stopping [Isaac] Butts and [Donald] Sims was sensational. When we went up four, Casaan Breeden gave us a big three and I was hoping we could get some stops but we just couldn't. We were very fortunate at the end.”
On the key plays late in the game
“We were fortunate at the end when Drew got hit that he was able go to the line. If he couldn't Appalachian State was going to put Jeremy Simmons on the line. Andrew said he was alright and that he wanted to shoot the free throws so I asked the official about getting him back in the game and he said to call timeout and you can bring him in. I asked him if he was sure he wanted to shoot them and he said yes so we brought him in and he made two clutch free throws. App State is as good as anybody in our league.”.
About the game
“A great game, a great atmosphere and we are fortunate. With four seconds left they could have scored. I would like to us get back to ourselves and were going to keep working on it and see where it takes us. At least we'll go to practice tomorrow in a good mood but we know we've got to play better. This conference has become a bear and it's tough. Appalachian will bring a lot of people to Charlotte for the conference tournament and their going to be dangerous.”
Addressing the team's goals
“The first round bye is not our first goal. Our goal has always been a regular season championship and this is the first year that we've been able to compete for that. Us, Wofford and all the other teams have an opportunity after Davidson has dominated our league. It's great to get a bye, obviously, but Wofford has the advantage because they beat up on Davidson tonight by 20 and then we go to Spartanburg. The atmosphere there will be amazing. It will be sold out and will be a really big Southern Conference game that will determine the regular season champion”.
About closing out the home season
“We almost went undefeated at home. I want to thank our fans, our city for the great support that we've had all year”.
Discussing the upcoming ESPN Bracketbuster game at George Mason
“It might be an advantage to be playing a game out of conference before Wofford, you never know. It will be nice to play a very good team like George Mason. Hopefully it will help us, if not the rest of the regular season, in the tournament because they're a good team”.
Tony White, Jr.
Speaking about Senior Night
“It was a great experience and was great to see that crowd here tonight. It kind of reminded me of the Wofford game. It didn't hit me that this was my last game on this floor until I looked at my Mom and saw it in her eyes, how emotional she was. It was a great experience. Charleston has given me the best four years of my life so far. It's a beautiful city and I love it.”
On Appalachian State's play
“App State is a good team and we knew this was going to be a tough game. I think we got some breaks early on, we built a big lead but I think we let up a little bit. You can't do that with good teams, especially Appalachian State. They did a good job and hit some big shots.”
Casaan Breeden
On the Cougars approach to the game
“We just went out there and played basketball like we know how to. Its how we've been playing all year. Up tempo and running up and down the court.”
Speaking about when Goudelock went down
“We want all the pieces to the puzzle when we go to the conference tournament.”
About what the Cougars take from this game
“Any win in the SoCon is a good win, especially with the race being so close and multiple teams contending. We're just glad to be in the hunt”.
Jeremy Simmons
Speaking about feeling undersized in the post against 6-10 Isaac Butts
“I knew that couldn't back him down in the paint so I had to use my quickness to get around him. Coach has been telling me all week that I was going to have to use my quickness. That's the first time I've ever felt small”.
