The College of Charleston men's basketball team looks for its fourth win in a row and the season sweep over the Bulldogs when the Cougars host The Citadel at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at the Carolina First Arena. Charleston defeated The Citadel, 61-55, earlier this season.
The Cougars hold the 47-39 series record over The Citadel dating back to a 25-7 decision over the Bulldogs in 1901, and have won the last 14 of 16 meetings.
"They picked us apart last year, beat us twice," said Head Coach Bobby Cremins. "We had a great game over there. It was a great win for us after we beat North Carolina to go over there and beat them in a great game. It's not the Princeton offense, but we're going to see a lot of 8-to-10 passes. We're going to see Cameron Wells posting up, driving. He really hurt us at their place with post up moves."
Charleston, 16-8 overall and 11-2 in the Southern Conference, defeated Samford, 75-54, in its last game. The Cougars nailed 18 three-pointers, just one short of the school record, while Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored a team-high 25 points off a career-high seven three-pointers.
The Citadel is 12-12 overall and 6-6 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs have won two in a row, having defeated Chattanooga, 68-60, this past Saturday. Cameron Wells leads The Citadel with 17.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Charleston is led by Goudelock with 19.7 points a game. Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) paces the team in rebounds with 7.8 a game.
The Cougars are 8-2 in their last 10 games and average 80.3 points per game, compared to 72.2 for the opposition. Charleston holds a 49.1 shooting percentage, compared to 44.2 for the other teams. Charleston is averaging 74.6 points per game overall and 77.3 in conference play. On the other end, the Cougars are holding opponents to 72.1 points per game overall and just 69.2 in the SoCon.
