NEW ORLEANS - Junior Latisha Harris recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds, but the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 57-42 against the Tulane Green Wave Wednesday in the opening game of the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic.
The Cougars (2-9, 1-3) controlled most of the first half as they used runs of 6-0 and 7-2 and were up by as many as seven at 19-12 with 3:41 to go in the half.
CofC forced Tulane (9-2, 0-0) into 11 first half turnovers and held an 11-6 edge in points off turnovers. The Green Wave would go on a run of their own, an 11-4 spurt as they tied the game, 23-23 at halftime.
Tulane came out strong in the second half as they scored the first seven points of the half to build a 30-23 lead. After going down by as many as 11, the Cougars clawed their way back as they used aggressive play to get in the bonus with over 13 minutes left in the game.
Harris showed her aggressive play as she dove on the ground for a loose ball to preserve a CofC possession, which led to a Jillian Brown 3-pointer to bring the Cougars within five points at 47-42 with 5:44 to play.
The Cougars could not get any closer as Tulane utilized production from both their post players and outside shooters to stretch the lead and close out the game.
Defensively, the Cougars held Tulane to just 4-of-21 from beyond the 3-point line and freshman Jazz Green and Brown each recorded four steals. Green also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and scored five points.
The Cougars will play again at 6:00 p.m. (7PM ET) tomorrow in the consolation game vs. Central Michigan.
