CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team held Appalachian State to 24.6 shooting from the field and forced 21 turnovers, but fell 50-41 against the Mountaineers Monday at TD Arena.
Sophomore Alyssa Frye led the Cougars with 14 points and fellow sophomore Jillian Brown handed out five assists in the game. Freshman Mikaela Hopkins had seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Cougars (6-18, 5-10 SoCon) scored seven of the first nine points of the game to take a 7-2 lead with 17:02 to go in the opening half. The Mountaineers (18-3, 12-1 SoCon) responded with a quick three-pointer to close the gap to two points.
CofC used its defense to hold the Mountaineers without a point for a six minutes and 32 second stretch, but could only build a 13-9 lead. Appalachian State would gain momentum as they used an 8-0 to close the half and tie the game at 21.
In the second half each team had a surge as the Mountaineers went on an early 9-0 run, but the Cougars responded down the stretch with a 7-0 run to cut an 11 point deficit down to four.
In the end Appalachian State made more free-throws in the final minutes to secure the victory.
