BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Junior Canyon Barry (Colorado Springs, Colo.) knocked down a game-high 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field including a career-high tying five three-pointers to lift College of Charleston to an 86-68 road victory at Campbell on Tuesday at Gore Arena.
The Cougars have now won six of their last seven games and closed out non-conference play with an 8-3 mark under second-year head coach Earl Grant.
Barry scored 25 first-half points as CofC couldn't miss from the floor (57.9%), from long range (47.4%) or from the free throw line, which ended a two-game win streak for the Camels (7-4).
Freshman Marquise Pointer (Jonesboro, Ark.) provided a spark off the bench tying a career high with 16 points, while sophomore Cameron Johnson (Athens, Ga.) added 15. Junior transfer Payton Hulsey (Memphis, Tenn.) had a near double-double with nine points and a career-high 12 rebounds from the point-guard position.
A layup by D.J. Mason with 7:50 left in the first half pulled Campbell within two, before Barry scored 10 during a 16-3 run that put the Cougars up 40-25 about six minutes later.
CofC led 45-27 at halftime and led by double figures throughout the second half of play. A three-point play by Barry gave the Cougars their biggest lead, 63-36, with 10:59 remaining in regulation.
Campbell could never recover from the deficit as CofC defensively held its leading scorer, Chris Clemons, to 14 points, and as a team, 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc (4-for-20).
After taking some time off for the holiday break, the Cougars will open CAA play at James Madison on New Year's Eve at 1 p.m. (ET) in Harrisonburg, Va.

POSTGAME QUOTES
College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant
On the game …
“I thought our guys were really locked in and ready to play. I noticed it yesterday in practice and last night when we came to Campbell to shootaround. Our guys had a good sense of urgency about them, so I was excited that they were able to come out here and perform at a high level today in the actual game.”
On Canyon Barry's first-half scoring outburst …
“We were real simple today, because they were playing a match-up zone. One of the things the staff and myself thought would be important was to not run a lot of plays. Just do two simple things and let the shots present themselves. Because of the match-up zone, the ball was moving and his teammates found him for open threes and he just delivered.”
On Payton Hulsey's contributions on both ends of the floor …
“Payton was very good today. He led us in rebounding and had 12 rebounds from the point guard position – three steals and four assists. He is a calming effect and calming presence on the floor for us. He doesn't try to do too much. He is always poised and under control. He played point guard in high school and his freshman year at Western Kentucky. He is stepping up and doing a great job for us this season.”
College of Charleston Junior Guard Payton Hulsey
On the game and finishing out non-conference play strong …
“We played defense well from the beginning until the end. We also shot the ball well, played team ball and played for each other today. As far as non-conference play, we did pretty well with the schedule that we had. We had some tough wins and some tough losses. All of the games we played in non-conference are momentum builders to get us ready for conference.”
On contributing on both ends of the floor for the Cougars …
“I do whatever the team needs me to do – rebounds, points and assists. I like to get everyone involved on sharing the ball. I also like to clean up the boards for our big men and boxing out.”
