CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team has added former Siena forward Kelsey Booth to the 2015-16 roster, as announced by head coach Candice M. Jackson on Friday.
Booth heads to the lowcountry with one remaining year of eligibility after spending the previous four season in Loudonville. As a junior in 2013-14, Booth led the Saints in threes (41), blocks (22) and free-throw percentage (.914), while also posting six double figure scoring efforts and two double-doubles. On the season, the East Hampton, Conn., native averaged 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Booth missed the entire 2014-15 season with a hip injury.
A two-time all-state prep standout, Booth averaged 19.5 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks as a senior at East Hampton High, eclipsing the 1,000 career point mark and becoming the school's all-time leading shot blocker.
“We are very excited to add Kelsey to the roster this year,” said Jackson. “Coming in as a 5th year senior and being able to play this upcoming season, we know she will make an immediate impact on our program. Anytime you can add more depth at the post position, it affords you the opportunity to expand your offense in a way previously not possible. Kelsey's ability to shoot from the outside is what is going to make her very hard to guard. She can knock it down as well as any guard on our team right now and stretching out the defense opens up the floor more for our other post on the floor to succeed inside. Kelsey's not afraid to rebound the ball which is something that we will need with the loss of (Christy) Hewatt and (Mikaela) Hopkins. Her personality and team-oriented attitude will go a long way towards helping us restore the roar in women's hoops here at The College.”
