MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – College of Charleston ace Taylor Clarke was named a National Collegiate Baseball Writer Association (NCBWA) First Team All-American, adding to his deservedly elaborate list of accolades accrued over his dominant season on the mound.
Clarke was one of the most prolific pitchers in the nation in 2015, and had been previously named a Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist, and the CAA Pitcher of the Year.
The righty from Ashburn, Va., is tied for the national lead with 13 victories this season after amassing a 13-1 record in 16 starts. He has maintained a 1.73 ERA by reducing opponents to a paltry .185 batting average. He fanned a CofC-record 143 strikeouts to rank third in the nation this season, while limiting himself to just 14 walks for a 10.21 strikeout-to-walk ratio, the fourth-best in the country.
Clarke racked up 13 quality starts and tallied double-digit strikeouts six times, including a career-high and program-record 18 punch-outs against Radford.
He becomes the second Cougar all-time to be named to the NCBWA First Team All-America squad, and the first CofC pitcher to do so. Two rounds of voting were conducted by the NCBWA membership to produce the 18th-annual All-America squad.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
