Cougars Head to Hofstra for CAA Clash

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Looking to rebound from a tough west coast swing, the College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-3-1) will resume conference play this Saturday when they take on the Hofstra Pride (3-3-1) in Hempstead, N.Y. at 7 p.m.
The Cougars come to Saturday's contest on a two-game skid, having dropped both of their contests in their trip to the Pacific Northwest. The College managed to force Seattle University to overtime, but the Redhawks managed to pull away thanks to a free kick turning into a golden goal. After that, the Cougars took on the (RV) Washington Huskies, but fell 2-0 despite Kevin Shields recording a career-high 12 saves.
The two teams will both play in an unusual venue thanks to presidential debates pushing the game from Hofstra Soccer Field to James M. Shuart Stadium, home of the New York Cosmos soccer team and the former home of the now-defunct Hofstra football program. The Cougars have an even 1-1-1 record against the Pride since joining the CAA.
The Pride have gone 2-1 in their most recent three games, with their loss coming at the hands of No. 5 Syracuse. Saturday will also feature a genuine blood feud, with CofC midfielder Cornell Holland squaring off against his older brother and NSCAA All-American Joseph Holland, who leads the Pride with six points. Leonard Arkhanhelskyl is the go-to keeper for Hofstra this season, sporting a 1-2-1 record and a 0.83 GAA.
