Cougars Sweep Away Huskies To Claim Sole Possession Of First Place

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team took over sole possession of first-place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a straight-set sweep of Northeastern on Saturday evening, as junior Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) paced three Cougars in double figures with 12 kills and a .556 hitting percentage, and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) added a double-double.
With the victory, College of Charleston (20-4, 9-1 CAA) extends its win-steak to eight and moves atop the CAA with six matches remaining in the regular season. The Cougars won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-13, and 25-21, and posted totals of 45 kills, 49 digs, and 10 blocks to go along with a .287 hitting percentage. Northeastern (15-8, 8-2 CAA) was limited to 37 kills, 37 digs, three blocks, and a .147 attacking clip.
Madison paced the Cougars with 12 kills, three blocks, and blistering .556 hitting percentage, while Freed tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) recorded a double-double as well with 11 kills and 10 digs, as Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) added nine kills and four blocks to move into 10th on the program's all-time blocks list.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 36 assists and added five digs, as McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) vaulted into 10th on the program's all-time digs list with eight digs. Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) added 11 digs and five blocks, respectively.
Amy Underdown led the way for Northeastern with a match-high 15 kills, as Athena Ardila and Brigitte Burcescu chipped in seven and six kills, respectively. Samantha Shupe dished out 20 assists, Kristen Walding added 14, and Gabrielle Eyl posted a match-high 12 digs.
The Cougars return to the court on Monday evening when they host James Madison (15-3, 6-3 CAA) on Pep Supper. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm in TD Arena.
