Cougars And Dukes Set To Battle For CAA Championship

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- The No. 21 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) and top-seeded College of Charleston volleyball team (27-4) will meet third-seeded James Madison (22-5) in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Match on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 pm, after the Dukes swept second-seeded Towson, and the Cougars rallied from 2-1 down against fifth-seeded Hofstra in the semifinals on Friday.

Last Time Out: CofC 3, Hofstra 2: The Cougars rallied for a nail-biting five-set win last night over Hofstra last night to advance to today's CAA Championship match. Devon Rachel paced the Cougars with a match-high 24 kills, as Allison Beckman posted a double-double with 55 assists and 16 digs. Jane Feddersen added 12 kills, seven blocks, and a personal-best .611 hitting percentage.
Hauling In The Hardware: The Cougars amassed an envious collection of hardware on Wednesday with the announcement of the CAA Postseason Awards, as Krissy Mummey took home Player of the Year honors, Allison Beckman was named the Setter of the Year, and Jason Kepner was recognized as the Coach of the Year. Mummey and Beckman each earned All-CAA First Team honors, with Kennedy Madison and Devon Rachel being named to the Second and Third Teams, respectively.
In The Hunt: CofC continues to flirt with the top-50 in the NCAA RPI Rankings, and enter the CAA Tournament ranked 52nd. The Cougars have been as high as 47th (last week), and figure to be in the mix for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.
Crushing The Competition: Krissy Mummey has put together an unforgettable senior thus far, and continues to rise to the occasion against the Cougars' toughest opponents. In CofC's 10 matches against teams ranked amongst the top 100 in RPI, Mummey is averaging 3.39 kills and 0.92 blocks per set while attacking at a .395 clip. She has been particularly effective in the Cougars' six wins against top-100 teams – averaging 3.71 kills per set in those matches while hitting a blistering .459.
Climbing The Ladder: Junior setter Allison Beckman continues to make her way toward the top of the Cougars' record books with another fine season. With 55 assists last night, the 5-foot-10 setter moved into fifth in program history, and currently sits at 3,420 assists for her career.
Scouting James Madison: The third-seeded James Madison Dukes enter today's championship match with a 22-5 overall record after dispatching second-seeded Towson in straight sets yesterday. The Dukes lead the conference in blocks per set (2.80), paced by the league's top individual blocker, M'Kaela White (1.50). White also ranks third in hitting percentage (.348).
