Making History: CofC made history on Sunday evening by earning the first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for both the program and the CAA. The Cougars enter the tournament ranked 46th in RPI - their highest ranking of the season - while making their ninth appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Hauling In The Hardware: The Cougars amassed an envious collection of hardware on November 15 with the announcement of the CAA Postseason Awards, as Krissy Mummey took home Player of the Year honors, Allison Beckman was named the Setter of the Year, and Jason Kepner was recognized as the Coach of the Year. Mummey and Beckman each earned All-CAA First Team honors, with Kennedy Madison and Devon Rachel being named to the Second and Third Teams, respectively.
Streaking Cougars!: Charleston has been one of the hottest teams in the nation of late, and carried a 14-match winning streak into the CAA Tournament. During that stretch, the Cougars averaged 2.77 blocks per set and hit .271 as a team, while holding opponents to a hitting percentage of just .127.
Last Time Out: JMU 3, COFC 0: The Cougars rallied for a nail-biting five-set win last night over Hofstra last night to advance to today's CAA Championship match. Devon Rachel paced the Cougars with a match-high 24 kills, as Allison Beckman posted a double-double with 55 assists and 16 digs. Jane Feddersen added 12 kills, seven blocks, and a personal-best .611 hitting percentage.
The Last Time They Met...: Thursday's match will mark only the second time the Cougars and Hurricanes have met on the volleyball court - five years to the day after the first. In that contest, CofC rallied from a 2-1 deficit to upset No. 23 Miami in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament behind a 27-kill, 17-dig double-double from Darcy Dorton.
Scouting Miami: Miami enters the NCAA Tournament with a 21-5 record - including 11 wins over teams currently in the NCAA RPI Top-100 - after finishing third in the ACC. The Hurricanes rank 10th in the nation in aces per set (1.70) and 53rd in hitting percentage (.246). Olga Strantzali leads Miami and ranks 16th in the nation in kills per set (4.55); Sylvia Hernandez paces the Hurricanes with 3.99 digs per set.
