The College Set To Battle Bucs Tuesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will host in-town foe Charleston Southern on Tuesday evening as the Cougars look to continue their strong start to the 2017 season. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm.

Swinging Sophomore: Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) picked up the first Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week honors of her career on Monday after opening the season with three straight double-doubles this past weekend. The sophomore outside hitter averaged 4.36 kills and 3.79 digs per set while attacking at a .258 clip, and currently leads the Cougars with 46 kills.
Mummey's Wall: Senior Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) put up a nearly impenetrable wall at the net this weekend, totaling 19 blocks to lead the team. The 6-foot-3 middle blocker averaged 3.27 kills and 1.73 blocks per set while attacking at a blistering .451 clip. She opened the weekend with nine kills, eight blocks and a career-high three service aces against USC Upstate on Friday. After posting 14 kills and hitting .481 against Tennessee State, Mummey capped the weekend with 14 kills and a career-high nine blocks against Denver.
Court General: Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) has started her junior season in fine form after averaging a CAA-leading 11.82 assists per set this past weekend. The 5-foot-10 setter posted a pair of double-doubles, including a 51-assist, 12-dig performance in the Cougars' 3-1 win over Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon. Beckman's distribution played a vital role in CofC's success, with four players registering at least 70 attack attempts.
Scouting Charleston Southern: The Bucs endured a tough start to the season at the Catamount Volleyball Classic after falling to Western Carolina, Jacksonville State, and Towson. Junior libero Madison Martin paced CSU with an average of 5.09 digs per set, while Hannah Western (19 kills-25 digs) and Logan Windsor (10 kills-14 digs) each recorded double-doubles in Saturday's matchup with Jacksonville State.
