CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-12, 1-5) is at home this weekend for two games in TD Arena against James Madison (9-7, 5-0) and Towson (7-10, 2-4).
The Cougars tip off against the Dukes on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and will meet the Tigers in their CofC Women's Basketball Alumni Game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
CofC comes off a pair of tough road losses against Northeastern and Hofstra last weekend. Bri Sullivan continued her impressive run with two more career-bests, pulling down eight rebounds against the Huskies and pawing away three steals against the Pride. Tanisha Brown meanwhile registered her 17th career double-double with a 10-10 performance against Hofstra.
The Cougars and Dukes last met in the 2016-17 regular season finale in Harrisonburg, where the College fell 74-60 despite a 20-12 night from Tanisha Brown on 10 of 13 shooting from the free throw line. This year, JMU played a difficult non-conference schedule to go 4-7, but have since rallied to win five in a row since the beginning of CAA play, including a 70-67 home win against defending CAA champions Elon. The Dukes have the second-best defense in the conference, only allowing 61.4 points per game, and are led by reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Kamiah Smalls, who averages 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
CofC ran into the Tigers earlier this season on New Year's Eve in Towson, where the Cougars emerged with a 80-67 win thanks in large part to a 28-point first quarter, which set a program-record. Tanisha Brown had a 20-10 double-double that game, while Deja Ford set career highs in scoring and rebounding with a 20-7 afternoon. Towson's two conference wins this year have come against William & Mary and UNCW, but they dropped their most recent game, a 51-49 defeat on the road at Delaware. Towson is the conference leader in rebounds with 45.3 per game, thanks to the efforts of their front-court tandem of Mary Cuevas and Nukiya Mayo, who are each Top-5 in the conference with 10 RPG a piece.
