CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team opens December with a road trip to Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon. The 2 p.m. tipoff will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as the Cougars look to move to 3-4 on the season.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
• The Mountaineers sit at 4-3 on the season; most recently dropping a matchup at East Tennessee State on Nov. 29, 96-64.
• Appalachian State opened the year with back-to-back losses against University Alabama-Birmingham and Georgia Tech before rattling off four straight victories.
• The Mountaineers picked up wins over UNCG, Davidson, Elon and Marshall between Nov. 15 - 25 to move to 4-2, before Thursday's loss moved them to 4-3.
• Preseason All-Sun Belt second team selection Madi Story scored a season high 20 points in Thursday's loss to ETSU.
• Story, a senior guard, and junior center Bayley Plummer were named to the preseason second team.
•Sophomore guard Pre Stanley made the Sub Belt Preseason Third Team.
• The Mountaineers were picked to finish 9th in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll.

• Entering this weeks round of play - as a team, Charleston are converting from beyond the arc at the 15th best percentage in the United States (1st in the CAA).
• With a 76.6% free throw percentage, the Cougars are ranked 30th in the NCAA.
• Individually, freshman guard Tyler Collins leads the Colonial Athletic Association in assists per game with 6.8; ranking her 9th in the NCAA.
• Collins' 41 season assists rank her 17th in the USA and 1st in the CAA.
• Senior guard Darien Huff is shooting 95.7% from the free throw line - good for 2nd in the CAA and 9th in the NCAA.
UPPERCLASSMEN IMPROVEMENTS
• Through the opening six games of this season, senior/junior duo Darien Huff and Deja Ford have improved considerably from 2017 to 2018.
• Huff is averaging two minutes less in terms of playing time, but averaging 4 points more with a rise from 10.3 to 14.3 from year to year.
• Huff's converting from the field at a 47% rate, 50% from deep, compared to 39%/32% at this point a year ago.
• Ford's shooting numbers have also jumped considerably... last year shooting just 34% and 20% compared to a 45% and 50% rate this season.
• Both are an integral part of a backcourt that has helped improve the Cougars points per game average from 64.3 to 70.6.
NO FEAR FRESHMAN
• Five true freshman and one redshirt freshman have seen gametime over the opening six games.
• Tyler Collins and Arynn Eady starting all six in the point guard and forward roles respectively - Madison Taylor most recently starting twice in the guard role.
• Collins created history in her first game… The 5'6" point guard dished out 12 assists in 26 minutes of action - tied for the most in a single game in program history dating back to Sara Weaver against Limestone in 1999 (Lisa Schweers tallied 16 against Francis-Marion pre-Division I era).
RANDOM KNOWLEDGE
• The College have put up double-digit victories in the non-conference schedule in the past seven seasons (including this year)
