Men's Tennis Heads Out West to Take On UC Riverside, Southern Utah

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (5-7) embarks out west for two matches over the next two days, as they will challenge UC Riverside (9-10) on Sunday and Southern Utah (9-5) on Monday.
CofC will play the Highlanders at 1 p.m. EST at SRC Tennis Courts, and will take on the Thunderbirds at 4 p.m. EST at Hurricane High School.
The Cougars will hope to rebound from a two-match skid, most recently falling in a 4-3 thriller at home against Appalachian State. CofC gave up the doubles point to give the Mountaineers the early advantage, and despite Juan Estevarena winning in flight two and Easton Thomas and Fernando Ramirez Lascurian cleaning up in the lower flights, APSU was able to prevent the comeback with some late three-set wins.
The College last encountered the Highlanders back in 2014, a match which saw CofC prevail 7-0 on the road. This season, UC Riverside has rebounded nicely from a 2-6 start to the year to peel off five straight wins in their last five matches. Those victories came against Youngstown State, Boston University, Villanova, Bucknell and Concordia Irvine. UC Riverside has played just six of its 19 matches so far away from home.
After winning just six matches in the last five years, Southern Utah is in the midst of their most successful season by far at 9-5. They've won a whopping seven matches in a row dating back to Feb 23, and remarkably have yet to play a match on their home courts, their two "home" matches being hosted at Hurricane High School an hour away. SUU has been dominant in middle flight singles play, as third flight's Agustin Tamagnone and fourth flight's Guy Feigin have matching 10-3 records.
