MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) struck out a career-high 10 batters in seven and two-thirds innings, and Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) went 4-for-4 with an RBI and several stellar defensive plays at second to lead the College of Charleston baseball team to a 5-2 series-opening win over Georgia on Friday evening at Patriots Point.
With the victory, College of Charleston (8-2) extends its win streak to five games while snapping Georgia's (7-2) six-game stretch of victories. The Cougars pushed across five runs on nine hits – including three for extra bags – and six walks, while limiting the Bulldogs to two runs on four base knocks.
Hart paced the offense with four hits – including a double – and a walk while also driving in one. Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) added a 2-for-3 day with an RBI, as Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.), Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.), and Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) each drove in one run as well.
Sisk delivered his most dominant start of the season, scattering four hits and two unearned runs across seven and two-thirds innings while striking out a career-high 10 batters. The effort earned the junior left-hander his second win of the season, and the eighth of his career. Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) retired the final four batters in order – two by way of the K – to notch his third save of the campaign.
Bradley Tucker accounted for two of Georgia's four hits to pace the offense, as Aaraon Schunk drove in one run. Kevin Smith lasted three innings, and surrendered three runs on six hits to take the loss. Tony Locey allowed one run over two frames, while Will Proctor gave up one run in three innings of work.
The Cougars and Bulldogs will resume the three-game set on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm, with sophomore Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) taking the ball opposite Georgia freshman Emmerson Hancock.
