Cougars And Bulldogs Set For Early-Season Showdown

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will look to continue its four-game winning streak with a tough weekend series against a University of Georgia squad that is off to a red-shot start to the 2018 season. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm in Friday's series-opener, with junior left-hander Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) taking the ball opposite Georgia junior Kevin Smith.

Danny Wondrack put his power on display in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Georgia Southern, mashing two solo homers for his first career multi-home run game. The junior catcher now leads the Cougars with three long balls.

Sophomore starters Griffin McLarty and Jakob Frishmuth have each opened the season with back-to-back solid starts, combining for a 3-0 record and a sub-1.00 earned run average in 20 and one-third innings of work. Frishmuth enters the third week of the season with a 2-0 record, a 0.82 ERA, and eight strikeouts; McLarty is 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA and nine K's.

Brian Rourke rebounded from a tough first outing with a superb second on Wednesday evening. The junior right-hander scattered four hits and striking out five in seven scoreless innings to earn his first win at The College.
Scouting Georgia
Georgia is riding a six-game winning streak after defeating Wofford, 5-0, on Tuesday. The Bulldogs come into the weekend ranked 11th in the nation in scoring with an average of 9.5 runs per game, and lead Division I with 11 sacrifices.
Keegan McGovern paces the Georgia offense with six home runs, 14 RBIs, and a 1.172 slugging percentage to go along with a .483 batting average. Sunday starter Chase Adkins enters the weekend with a 1-0 record and a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings of work.
