HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. --- Jakob Frishmuth (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) surrendered one run over seven solid innings, and Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) drove in two with a clutch two-out double in the eight, but it was not enough as Hofstra scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 5-4 win over the College of Charleston baseball team on Sunday afternoon.
With the setback, College of Charleston falls to 27-14 overall and 9-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Hofstra moves to 17-15 overall and 7-8 in CAA action. The Pride pushed across five runs on seven hits – including a walk-off three-run home run – while the Cougars scored four runs on eight base knocks.
Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored to pace the Cougars, while Dixon plated two with an eighth inning double. Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) and Clay Hunt (Fort Mill, S.C.) each drove in a run as well.
Frishmuth went seven strong, allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven. Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) took the loss, and surrendered four runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Rob Weissheier delivered the key hit for the Pride as part of a 2-for-4 day with a three-run, walk-off home run in the ninth. Mikey Reisner went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, as Vito Friscia and Teddy Cillis each drove in one.
Michael James got the start and allowed one run on three hits in three innings of work. Cillis pitched six innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out six in a winning effort.
The Cougars return to the diamond on Tuesday when they will look to snap a five-game skid in a midweek matinee against Georgia Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
