
Cougars Use Seven-Run Fifth To Power Past Hofstra, 10-3, In CAA Tournament

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- The third-seeded College of Charleston baseball team plated seven runs in the fifth inning – highlighted by back-to-back two-run homers from Logan McRae (Florence, S.C.) and Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) – to break a 2-2 tie en route to a 10-3 win over No. 6 Hofstra in the opening round of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, College of Charleston (36-17) advances in the winner's bracket to face No. 2 seed Elon on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Cougars launched four or more home runs for the third time this season, while reaching double digits in runs for the ninth time. Charleston pushed across 10 runs and tied a season-high with 16 hits – including four homers – while limiting Hofstra (23-22) to three runs on six base knocks.
McRae went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including an RBI single and a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth, to pace the offense. Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.) finished a triple shy of the cycle with two singles, a double, a solo home run, and three runs scored. Wondrack launched his team-leading 12th home run of the season – a two-run shot – as Ari Sechopoulos (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a mammoth solo homer in the second.
Tommy Richter (Wayne, Pa.) added a 2-for-4 day with a two-run single in the fifth, while Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) went 2-for-5 and Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) chipped in an RBI triple. Clay Hunt (Fort Mill, S.C.) went 1-for-4 with a run scored, as Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) reached base twice and scored a run.
Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) fought through six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three to earn the win. With the victory, Sisk moves into a tie for sixth on the program's single-season list with 10 wins. Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.) tossed three shutout innings and struck out one to earn his first save of the season.
Vinnie Costello paced the Pride with a 2-for-4 effort and drove in two with a game-tying ground rule double in the fifth. Rob Weissheier went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, as he, Vito Friscia, and Austin Gauthier each scored one run.
