Seahawks Use Nine-Run Late Inning To Top Cougars

The Seahawks (23-22, 7-7 CAA) led 5-2 heading into the top of the eighth as the Cougars (27-16, 9-5 CAA) gave up nine runs with four relievers looking to end the hitting spree sparked by pinch hitter Chris Thorburn.

Fourteen batters would come to the plate as Thorburn later lined out off the pitch from redshirt freshman right-hander Trey Fields to senior shortstop Luke Manzo for the final out of the inning.

Senior Danny Wondrack hit a solo home run over left field in the bottom of the eighth – his 12th of the season, while Manzo had an RBI single in the third and redshirt senior Chaz Davey a homer in the fourth.

Freshman right-hander Brooks Lucas was credited with the loss pitching 6.1 innings with six strikeouts, while UNCW starter Zarion Sharpe claimed his first win of the season on the mound.

The conference-rivalry series will conclude on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m. (ET) at Patriots Point.
