Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (9-6, 1-3) scored 55 points in the second half to secure an 87-71 road win at William & Mary on Sunday afternoon.
Anika McGarity scored a career-high 25 points, including 22 in the second half, to lead the way for the Cougars. She connected on 7-of-15 attempts from beyond-the-arc.
First Half
- The Cougars forced five turnovers in the first five minutes of the game to help them own a 10-9 lead at the first quarter media timeout
- Despite shooting just 2-for-10 from deep in the opening period, the Cougars and Tribe were knotted at 15-15 after one
- William & Mary opened the second quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 22-17 lead early in the frame
- CofC would respond with a 11-0 run to grab a 28-22 lead with 2:30 left in the first half
- At the half, Charleston held on to a 32-27 advantage
- Arynn Eady led the way for CofC with nine points and eight rebounds in the first half
Second Half
- William & Mary opened the second half on an 8-2 spurt to grab a 35-34 lead
- Anika McGarity knocked down three consecutive threes to give Charleston a 50-48 lead with 3:34 to go in the third. Jenna Annecchiarico assisted on all three
- A fourth straight three from McGarity and back-to-back layups from Grace Abercrombie gave CofC a 10-0 run and its largest lead of the game at 57-48 with 2:03 to go in the third
- After three quarters of play, the Cougars owned a 60-55 lead
- With CofC leading 67-59, it embarked on a 9-0 run to pull away from the Tribe and extend its lead to 76-59 midway through the fourth
- Madison Taylor made back-to-back threes during the run
- The Cougars would make seven of their final eight field goals to close out the Tribe and grab the 87-71 road win
