STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Katie Carrino and Savannah Barron combined for College of Charleston's seventh shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw at Stony Brook on Thursday.
The Cougars (8-6-2, 2-3-2 CAA) gained a point in the conference standings, leaving them in a ninth-place tie with Hofstra with eight points. The Cougars and Pride meet Sunday in Hempstead, N.Y., at noon.
Carrino played the first 74 minutes and made two saves, and Barron also stopped a pair of shots in her 16 minutes of action. Nicolette Pasquarella recorded eight saves for Stony Brook.
It appeared the Cougars had taken the lead in the first half on a shot by Grace Powell, but it was ruled that the ball didn't go over the line.
"We were fantastic tonight against a solid Stony Brook team," said head coach Christian Michner. "We created so many chances to score and even scored what we thought would be the game winner.
"I am absolutely gutted for the girls as they deserved more than a point tonight. But points on the road are hard to come by in this conference, so we will take it and move on to the next one. Very little separates everyone in the standings, and we will have to be dialed in on Sunday to earn three points."
The Cougars fired 19 shots, led by Olivia Freitas and Jenna Snead with four each, and Freitas and Powell both had two of the team's eight shots on target. The Seawolves took 13 shots with four on goal.
