Pups on the Pitch Waiver
CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston's hopes for a berth in the CAA Tournament come down to a pair of games on Sunday.
Charleston must defeat UNCW in its regular season finale at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point and hope that William & Mary either wins or draws against Hampton. A win would give the Cougars 11 points in the CAA standings and move them past the Seahawks and Tribe for the eighth and final seed.
Kickoff between the Cougars and UNCW is at 1 p.m. The postseason gets underway on October 27 at the home of the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, which are currently Monmouth and Northeastern.
Sunday is the final Pups on the Pitch Day with fans invited to bring their furry friends to the game. All dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations and a waiver form is required.
The Cougars are 8-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the CAA. Seven of those wins have come at Patriots Point, and Charleston has allowed only nine goals in 10 home games including five shutouts. The Seahawks are 7-7-2 and 3-4-1 in conference play.
UNCW owns a 11-5-1 lead in the series, but the Cougars won last year, 3-2 in overtime at Patriots Point. Faith Slimmer and Delaney Dawes had two of Charleston's goals, and Olivia Freitas and Jenna Snead had assists.
The game features three of the top goal scorers in the CAA. Grace Powell has eight and is tied for fourth along with UNCW's Madison Henry. Kayla Burroughs has seven goals for the Seahawks.
Powell is also tied for seventh in the conference with 18 points while Henry is fourth with 22. Slimmer is tied for third in the league with six assists, and Morgan Nanni paces the Seahawks with five. UNCW keeper Hanna Wise is third in the CAA with a 1.05 goals against average.
