
Cougars Begin Road Swing at Georgia Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston embarks on a three-game stretch away from home Friday when the Cougars make the short trip to Statesboro, Ga., to take on Georgia Southern. Tipoff at Hanner Fieldhouse is 6 p.m.
The Eagles hold a 26-17 lead in the series, with 32 of those 43 games occurring between the 1998-99 and 2012-13 seasons when the teams were Southern Conference rivals. Georgia Southern won, 85-65, at TD Arena last year in the first meeting since February 2013.
The Cougars and Eagles have had two common opponents during the non-conference schedule. Both teams easily defeated Charleston Southern and dropped narrow decisions to Gardner-Webb.
The Cougars (5-3) are riding a four-game winning streak including all three in a homestand that wrapped up with an 84-38 victory over Berry on Tuesday. Jada Logan made Cougar history with only the second triple-double in school history, accumulating 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Logan ranks second in the CAA and 28th in the nation in scoring (19.8 ppg) and is ninth in the conference in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and 10th in assists (3.4). She is the only player in the CAA in the top 10 in all three categories.
Anika McGarity also had a big night with a season-high 21 points including five 3-pointers and leads the CAA with 2.9 makes per game and .488 shooting from behind the arc. Jaila Roberts hit 7-of-9 shots including 4-of-5 from long distance to finish with 18 points.
Charleston is the top-scoring team in the CAA and 40th in the NCAA at 77.8 ppg and is second in victory margin at 14.4. The Cougars also force the second-most turnovers in the conference (22.4) and are second with 10.8 steals per game.
Georgia Southern is 7-1, its best start since 1981-82, and has won five in a row. Terrin Ward leads the Eagles in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) with Diamond Stokes (10.5) and Le'Andrea Gillis (10.1) also averaging in double figures. Constance Thomas is the team leader with 38 assiss and 25 steals.
