
Cougars Face Top-Seeded Drexel in CAA Semis on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- The No. 5 seeded College of Charleston women's basketball team (18-12, 9-9, 1-0 in CAA Tournament) will face the No. 1 seed and CAA regular season champion Drexel Dragons (25-4, 16-2, 1-0 in CAA Tournament) on Saturday in the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on FloHoops.

- The College of Charleston beat Elon 70-59 on Friday to advance to the CAA Tournament Semifinals for the second time since joining the conference. The Cougars snapped a 15-game losing streak to Elon; CofC had not beaten the Phoenix since 2012.
- Elon was the only team in the CAA that head coach Robin Harmony had not yet beaten in her three years in Charleston. Following that win, Harmony has defeated every other program in the conference
- Charleston's 18 wins are its most since the 2013-14 team won 19 games.
- Charleston won a CAA Tournament game for the first time since the 2018 tournament. The 2022 CofC senior class won a CAA Tournament game for the first time in their careers.
- CofC and Drexel have never met in the CAA Tournament
- The Cougars have now won four CAA Tournament games since joining the league, but have never won a semifinal contest
- The College of Charleston Cougars made program history in a couple different ways on Friday. In the 70-59 win over Elon, Charleston advanced to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 - Charleston's first conference tournament as a member of the league.
- Drexel and CofC have never met in the CAA Tournament.
- The rubber match between Charleston and Drexel is sure to entertain. The two teams split the season series, with the road team claiming victory in each matchup.
- Both games were decided by one point. The Dragons escaped Charleston with a 61-60 victory in the CAA opener. On February 6th, the Cougars knocked off Drexel 74-73, ending Drexel's national best 14-game winning streak. It was the first time Charleston had ever beaten Drexel in the DAC.
- Arynn Eady was huge in both games, posting averages of 19.5 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game against Drexel in the season series. Eady scored a career high 27 points in the win over the Dragons on February 6th
- The College of Charleston and Drexel could not be more different philisophically. Charleston wants to speed the game up and get down the floor, while the Dragons prefer to slow it down and limit the pace.
- According to HerHoopStats.com, the Cougars rank 30th in the country with an average of 74.6 possessions per 40 minutes. On the contrary, Drexel averages 63.7 possessions per 40 minutes - which ranks 355th out of 356 division teams
- On Wednesday, Charleston senior forward Arynn Eady was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and tabbed All-CAA Third Team.
- Eady proved herself worthy of such distinction on Friday, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 boards to go along with a block and a steal in CofC's win over Elon.
- Drexel is the top seed and hosting the CAA Tournament, however, the site of the tournament was predetermined and was not rewarded to the Dragons
- The Dragons are 25-4 and went 16-2 in CAA play to win the CAA regular season title
- Keishana Washington was named first team All-CAA, while Tessa Brugler and Hannah Nihill were named to the second team
- Drexel head coach Amy Mallon is in her second season. Mallon was named 2022 CAA Coach of the Year
- Drexel leads the all-time series 10-5
- The Cougars and Dragons split the season series with both games decided by one point
- On Feb. 6, the Cougars beat Drexel at the DAC for the first time ever and snapped Drexel's 14-game winning streak, the nation's best at the time
- The road team won both matchups in the seasons series
