CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team signed incoming freshman forward Marissa Brown, head coach Robin Harmony announced on Wednesday.
A native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Brown prepped at Choctawatchee High School under head coach Don Brown. In her senior season at Choctawatchee, the 6-foot forward averaged 22.0 points, 14.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. As a result of her stellar fourth-year campaign, Brown was nominated to the 2022 McDonald's All-American Games. Additionally, she was invited to two high school all-star games as a recognition of her achievements.
In her final season at Choctawatchee, Brown posted some eye-popping stat lines. In a game against Mosley High School, Brown totaled 21 points, 17 rebounds, and a pair of blocks. Versus Port St. Joe, Marissa exploded for 24 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists. Brown also collected 21 points, 16 boards, and seven dimes in a game with Rutherford. She averaged 19.5 points per game across her four prep seasons.
In addition to basketball, Brown also played for the Choctawatchee High School girls flag football team. In the spring and summer, Brown played AAU ball with Team Essence under head coach Kim Powell.
"Marissa is a tremendous athlete that can rebound with the best of them," Charleston head coach Robin Harmony said. "She's a double-double machine that really fits our system on both ends of the floor."
Brown becomes the fourth member of CofC's 2022 incoming freshmen class, joining Naylee Cortes, Jazmyn Stone, and Alexis Andrews.
