
Charleston Resumes CAA Play Friday at Elon

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston will begin the second half of the CAA schedule on Friday carrying a two-and-a-half game lead into a crucial three-game series this weekend at Elon. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 6:00 p.m. at Latham Park in Elon, N.C.
Charleston enters the weekend atop the CAA standings with a 10-2 mark halfway through its conference slate after sweeping William & Mary at Patriots Point last weekend. Elon has won four of its last five including a series sweep of UNC Asheville in non-conference action last weekend.

The Cougars lead the all-time series, 36-28, and have won three of the last five meetings with the Phoenix. Elon finished the 2021 campaign with a 4-3 edge over the Cougars despite Charleston knocking the Phoenix out of the CAA Tournament.

LEADING OFF
- The Cougars secured their third straight home sweep in CAA play last weekend to take a 2.5 game lead at the top of the conference standings halfway through the league schedule.
- Sophomore William Privette has been nothing short of spectacular out of the 'pen this season entering the weekend ranked second in the nation with a 0.93 ERA while leading the CAA with seven saves. He earned both a win and a save in 4.2 shutout innings over two appearances in the sweep of William & Mary to earn CAA Pitcher of the Week accolades.
- The Cougars have been extremely tough to put away in the last seven games with five come-from-behind victories in that span including a trio of walk-off wins. After posting back-to-back walk-off wins to secure a sweep of James Madison on April 9 and 10, the Cougars delivered their fourth walk-off of the season last Saturday to clinch the series win against William & Mary. Charleston has also rallied from a four-run deficit in back-to-back games against William & Mary and USC Upstate.
- The Cougars have been ruthless with two outs on the scoreboard this season accounting for more than a third (37.9%) of their total run output with two down. Charleston has totaled 85 runs with two outs this season scoring at least two runs with two down in 20 of 36 games thus far.
- Sam Cochrane, Trotter Harlan and JT Marr have been outstanding in the first half of the CAA schedule combining for 41 of the Cougars' 75 RBI thus far. Five Cougars are currently hitting at least .300 in league play led by Cam Dean's .333 clip.
- Senior Tanner McCallister has delivered in a big way over the last week with clutch home runs in back-to-back games. The Roebuck, S.C. native marked his first home run of the season in style last Sunday against William & Mary with a pinch-hit, game-tying homer in the Cougars' 7-5 comeback win. He launched a two-run bomb on Tuesday to spark Charleston's four-run rally with two outs in the ninth at USC Upstate.
- Elon comes into the series with an 18-18 overall record and a 3-6 mark in CAA after dropping two of three at Northeastern two weeks ago.
- The Phoenix lead the CAA and rank sixth nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.58) and have turned the ninth-most double plays in the nation (34).
- Alex Iadisernia paces the offense batting .328 with 12 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 33 RBI thus far.
- Luke Stephenson has accounted for eight of the Phoenix's 27 home runs this season.
- Saturday starter Brian Edgington carries a 5-2 record with a 2.96 ERA into the weekend and has struck out 62 batters in 54.2 innings of work.
