
Women's Basketball Sweeps CAA Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. - College of Charleston women's basketball swept the CAA weekly awards after ending nonconference play with a set of wins.
Alexis Andrews has been named Player of the Week, setting three career highs versus South Carolina State.
Andrews averaged 23.5 points per game, leading Charleston to back-to-back wins to close out its non-conference slate. The sophomore guard displayed her sharpshooting skills by going 12-of-21 (57.1%) from behind the arc while adding 6.0 rebounds per contest. On Tuesday, Andrews poured in a career-high 32 points with eight rebounds in an 84-64 win over South Carolina State. It marks her fourth game with at least 20 points this season. She shot 10-of-17 from the floor in the effort, including 9-of-13 from three-point range, both career-best marks. She followed the performance with 15 points, four rebounds and two steals, helping the Cougars to a 74-60 victory over Radford on Thursday.
Taryn Barbot was named Rookie of the Week after leading the scoring versus Radford.
Barbot contributed 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for Charleston. She opened the week with 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists as the Cougars defeated South Carolina State 84-64 on Tuesday. Barbot bettered the effort on Thursday with a career-high 24 points to lead CofC to a 74-60 win over Radford. She knocked down 6-of-10 three-point tries against the Highlanders, adding five rebounds, five steals and three assists. The freshman has reached double figures in four straight games and notched her third 20-point performance this season.
Andrews is the first Cougar of the season to be named Player of the Week. Barbot has now earned back-to-back weekly accolades, receiving Rookie of the Week on December 18.
The Cougars will return to action on January 5, taking on North Carolina A&T on the road at 6:00 p.m.
