
Charleston Athletics Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 2025 College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame class has been selected and will be inducted on January 18, 2025.
This year's star-studded class includes volleyball program digs leader Marie Dobrenz, baseball program home run leader Matt Leeds, Olympic sailor Juan Maegli, NCAA track & field qualifier Emily Smith, SoCon Golfer of the Year Angie Hill, and legendary men's soccer coach Ralph Lundy.
The ceremony will be held at the Rita Hollings Science Center. Ticket information will be available at a later date.
2025 Hall of Fame Inductees
Marie Dobrenz Lyons ' 06 – Volleyball
A 2005 National Libero of the Year Honorable Mention, Marie Dobrenz Lyons anchored the Cougar back row to four consecutive SoCon Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances from 2003-2006. She was named the SoCon Libero of the Year in 2006 and was a two-time All-SoCon honoree. She currently holds the program record in total digs (2,477) and digs per set (5.75). Her individual season digs per set totals rank first, second, third and fifth in the program's annals. The Torrence, California native also ranks seventh in program history in total service aces (129).
Matt Leeds '11 – Baseball
Matt Leeds played for the Cougars from 2008-2011 and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 31st round of the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft. The former third baseman still ranks fourth all-time in slugging percentage (.665), second with 181 RBI, and is tied for the program's all-time leader with 40 home runs,. His 21 home runs in 2010 rank fourth on the program's single-season list, three spots ahead of his 2011 total of 18 long balls. Leeds holds CofC's single-season record with 88 RBI in 2010, which ranked second nationally, and is seventh on the same list with 80 RBI during the 2011 campaign, a total which ranked fourth nationally. He was honored on the 2010 NCBWA All-America First Team and named to the ABCA and Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team in 2010. A two-time SoCon Player of the Year, he was a member of the 2010 NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional runner-up squad. Leeds earned his MBA in 2016 from Harvard Business School.
Juan Maegli '13 – Sailing
Juan Maegli became the fourth sailor in school history to be the awarded the prestigious Everett B. Morris Trophy as the College Sailor of the Year in 2013. A ICSA All-American, Maegli is a five-time Olympian, having represented Guatemala as a flag bearer during the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony. A native of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Maegli finished ninth in the One Person Dinghy in London 2012 before finishing an Olympic career-best eighth in Rio 2016. This summer in Paris, Maegli concluded his fifth and final Olympics in 16th, highlighted by a regatta-best 3rd overall finish in the fourth race.
Emily Smith Gilberti '12 – Track & Field
A five-time SoCon champion, Emily Smith Gilberti was just the second-ever CofC athlete to qualify for NCAA Regionals in back-to-back seasons following current Hall of Famer Chakosha Lance. Smith, who won the indoor and outdoor titles in the high jump at the Southern Conference Championships in 2012, finished 39th in the 2021 NCAA Regional with a clearance of 1.67 meters (5.47 feet). She was the first ever Cougar to be named the SoCon Track & Field Rookie of the Year. Smith ranks second in program history in the indoor high jump at 1.78 meters (5.10 feet) and second in program history in the outdoor high jump at 1.75 (5.875 feet).
Angie Hill Stec '06 – Women's Golf
Angie Hill Stec, the 2006 SoCon Golfer of the Year, helped lead the Cougars to their first ever conference championship in 2006. She won the individual conference title that season by four shots shooting 70-68. She ranked 20th in NCAA scoring rating her sophomore year and shot the lowest score by Cougar at an NCAA Regional in program history with a 67. Hill's 2005-2006 scoring average of 73.78 stood in the Charleston record books for eight years. She won three total tournaments over her career, including the 2006 SoCon Championship.
Ralph Lundy – Men's Soccer
Ralph Lundy enjoyed a tremendous 33-year run at The College with 323 wins, five conference championships and five trips to the NCAA Tournament. He ranked fourth among active Division I coaches in victories at the time of retirement. He won a total of 453 games in 44 seasons, including the first 11 at Erskine.
The highlight of his career came in 1994 when the Cougars won a school-record 19 games, went 8-0 in the TAAC and defeated Charlotte and NC State to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The following season, Charleston earned its first national ranking by Soccer America, finishing the season at No. 19.
Lundy also led the Cougars to NCAA appearances in 1995, 1996, 2004 and 2010 and picked up wins over South Carolina and East Tennessee State, respectively, in the final two trips. The soccer field at Patriots Point was named in his honor during his final season in 2019.
