Baseball Falls at Georgia Southern

Both teams scored in the first as Charleston took an early lead through a Will Baumhofer lead-off homer. Georgia Southern responded with a two-run shot jump out in front. The Eagles then got another run after a call at the plate was overturned on a replay review, scoring one and allowing the inning to stay alive. They took advantage, bringing in one more for a 4-1 lead after the first. They continued to add on with a run in the second and four more in the third to take a 9-1 lead.
Georgia Southern ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the run-rule win. The season series is now even with the two teams scheduled to play next week at Patriots Point.
Key Cougars
- Dylan Johnson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. The Cougars catcher also threw out two runners on attempted steals during the game.
- Avery Neaves went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
- Peyton Nelson threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief.
Notes
Baumhofer's solo homer to start the game was the first lead-off homer by a Cougar since Dupree Hart did it on May 9, 2018 against South Carolina.
