CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head women's basketball coach Robin Harmony announced the signing of Madison Crawford and Dakara Merthie on National Signing Day.
Madison Crawford – Guard – 5'6 – Arlington, Texas – Mansfield Legacy HS
Crawford, a Texas native, will graduate from Mansfield Legacy High School and join the Cougars for the 2026-27 season.
"Madison is a point guard and a floor general that can score from all three levels," said Harmony. "She can get into the paint and pull up from three. She fits our defensive press perfectly, and will pick up the ball 94 feet the entire game."
Crawford's career accolades include Offensive Player of the Year (2024-25) ... TABC All-Region Team (2024-25) ... Two-time Legacy MVP ... Co-Newcomer of the Year (2022-23) ... Two-time All-District First Team honoree ... Tip Off in the Tone All-Tournament Team (2024) ... Mansfield Spring Creek Tourney All-Tournament Team (2024) ... Mavs Tournament All-Tournament Team (2022) ... Reached 1,000 career points as a sophomore.
"I chose College of Charleston because of my connection with the coaching staff," said Crawford. "The program and the campus are amazing, and I feel like I am a great fit."
Dakara Merthie – Guard – 5'9 – Deltona, Fla. – Ocoee HS
Merthie, a 1,000 point scorer will graduate from Ocoee High School and join the Cougars next season.
"Dakara is a shooting guard who is a prolific scorer," said Harmony. "She led all high schools in the Central Florida area in scoring last year, and is a sharp shooter from beyond the arc. Dakara can catch and shoot, or hit the three off the bounce. Defensively, she'll get into the passing lanes and pressure the ball full court."
Merthie helped her team win the district and regional championship in 2025. She also set many records at Ocoee High School which include: most points in a single season (694), most points in a single game (44), most field goals made in a season (234), highest points per game average in a season (24), most threes in a game (9) and most threes in a season (82). Merthie was also the Orlando Sentinel All-Area Player of the Year (2025), the Orange Country Public Schools Female Winter Athlete of the Year (2025) and the All-Orange Observer Player of the Year (2025). She also made the All-West Metro First Team (2025), the All-Metro Team (2025) and the Orlando Sentinel All-Area First Team (2024).
"I chose College of Charleston because I feel very strongly that the women's basketball coaching staff is a group that I can trust and build positive relationships with," said Merthie. "The coaches showed sincere dedication and support to all their players. They have the ability to develop a player I believe I would have the opportunity to fit with the culture of the team and the school and experience growth under this dynamic leadership."
