NEW ORLEANS, La. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team heads to New Orleans, La. for a pair of games at the Big Easy Classic at the Alario Center this week.

OPENING TIP — CofC, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorites, is 5-0 so far this year. The Cougars have gone 3-0 at home inside TD Arena, picking up wins over Covenant College, Charleston Southern and Iona before earning back-to-back road victories against N.C. Central and Quinnipiac – a top-30 mid-major program. Charleston is currently ranked 13th in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major top 25 rankings.
Looking to remain unbeaten, CofC will play two games in three days as the Cougars head to New Orleans, La. for the Big Easy Classic. Charleston will play New Mexico State for the first time in program history Thanksgiving Day before taking on High Point Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars return two starters from last years WNIT Super 16 squad, including the reigning CAA Player of the Year in Taryn Barbot.
CofC returns six key contributors from last year's team, while adding seven newcomers, including three key transfers in Tyja Beans (Western Carolina), Grace Ezebilo (Tyler Junior College) and Chynell Mitchell (UTRGV).
The 2024-25 Charleston women's basketball team set a record for the most wins in the program's Division I era with 25. Charleston also earned its first Power 4 win since 2009 with a 68-62 victory over Northwestern at the Hawk Classic on December 20, 2024.

AMONG THE NCAA — The Cougars currently have two players who are in the top-10 in the nation in their respective categories. Taylor Barbot is one of only four players in the country to record a triple-double and is also 5th in the nation in total assists (41) and 6th in assists per game (8.2). Grace Ezebilo is leading the country in defensive boards per game (10), and the junior forward is 3rd in rebounds per game (13.8) and 4th in total rebounds (69). Taryn Barbot also in the top-20 in both points per game (22.8) and total points (112).
As a team, Charleston is in the top-10 in three categories. The Cougars are 6th in the country in rebounding margin (18.8), 8th in rebounds per game (49.8) and 9th in offensive rebounds per game (18.6). Charleston is also tied for 11th in points per game (88).

LAST TIME OUT — The College of Charleston women's basketball team gutted out a 75-71 win over a talented Quinnipiac squad at M&T Bank Arena Friday night.
The January 25th home game against NC A&T will serve as the main celebratory night and commemorate the 50 years of the program's existence. The 1974-75 Charleston women's basketball team, which was the first-ever varsity squad, will be honored at the game.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES — New Mexico State is 1-3 on the year with the Aggies lone win coming at home against New Mexico Highlands.
New Mexico State is led by senior forward Lucía Yenes who is averaging 16.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per contest. Junior guard Imani Warren is also averaging double-digits with 11.5 points 4.8 rebounds and 2.25 assists per game.
The Aggies were picked 10th in the CUSA Preseason Poll.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS — Fresh off an NCAA Tournament appearance last year, High Point is 5-1 on the year and received votes in the latest College Insider Mid-Major top 25 poll.
The Panthers have earned wins over Wofford, East Carolina, Vermont, Merrimack and Johnson C. Smith. High Point is led by graduate guard Aaliyah Collins who made the All-Big South Preseason Second Team and is averaging 19.3 points, 3.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game. Junior guard Macy Spencer is averaging 16.5 points per game. Additionally, senior forward Nevaeh Zavala was named the Big South Preseason Player of the Year and made the All-Big South Preseason First Team. Zavala is averaging 7.7 points and 3.5 boards per game.
The 2024-25 Big South champs were picked as the preseason Big South favorites. High Point will take on Louisiana Friday afternoon prior to the contest against Charleston.

THE HARMONY FILE — The 2025-26 campaign is Robin Harmony's seventh as the head coach at College of Charleston. Harmony was named the program's eighth head coach on April 19, 2019 and has earned 100 wins at CofC, including back-to-back 20 win seasons at the helm.
In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court.
