DALLAS, Texas – College of Charleston reliever Davis Aiken was one of seventy-six players named to the initial 2025 Watch List for the 20th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, the association announced Wednesday.
An All-CAA Preseason selection, Aiken appeared in 30 of the team's 55 contests in 2024, posting a 0.99 WHIP and holding batters to a .204 average across 31.1 frames. Aiken's 11 saves and 30 outings in 2024 led the CAA and was good for sixth and 29th in the nation, respectively. The closer tallied 24 scoreless outings in his first season with the Cougars.
Aiken is one of four players on a 2025 roster that recorded 10-plus saves in 2024. Aiken enters 2025 as the 52nd ranked relief pitcher in D1 Baseball's Top 100 relievers.
The NCBWA, founded in 1962, presents the Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's top player and the Mike Martin National Coach of the Year to the nation's top coach. It also selects All-America Teams for all Divisions, a Division I Freshman All-America team, Division I, II and III Players of the Week and Division I, II and III Players of the Year.
The Cougars are set to open the 2025 campaign with a three-game series against VCU, beginning Feb. 14 at Patriots Point. First pitch on Opening Day is scheduled for 4 p.m.
