CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball head coach Chad Holbrook announced that Director of Baseball Operations Sam Gjormand has been promoted to General Manager, a new position for the program.
Gjormand becomes the first female General Manager in Division I college baseball and only the second individual to hold the title. She is also 1-of-31 females on a Division I baseball staff.
"Sam has proven to be invaluable to our baseball program," said Holbrook. "She is much more than an administrator; she has an incredible and vast knowledge of the game and provides our coaches incredible baseball insight to all things Cougar Baseball. She is simply great at her job and these new responsibilities will only make our program much better. We are lucky to have her at The College."
In addition to continuing to oversee the program's budget and coordinating all travel accommodations, Gjormand will also oversee and coordinate all fundraising events and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for the baseball program.
"I am grateful to be a part of Coach Holbrook's staff, and for the expanded opportunity he has trusted me with to serve the program," said. Gjormand. "The College of Charleston baseball program is truly a special place to be. I take immense pride in my role of being an advocate for our players and the program and look forward to continuing to chase greatness alongside the best coaching staff and young men in the country. I truly believe that I have the best job in the world and get to play just a small role in the special place that is the College of Charleston and am honored to continue providing our players opportunities in the new landscape of college athletics."
Gjormand was hired in 2021 after spending four seasons as a student manager at James Madison. During her time at JMU, Gjormand oversaw the other student managers and was responsible for both on and off the field duties, while assisting with video and team organization. Before joining the Cougars, Gjormand spent the 2021 summer as the assistant to the GM and MLB Scout Liaison for the Wareham Gateman in the Cape Cod League. Upon her arrival, Charleston made Gjormand a countable coach and had her on the road recruiting in the summer of 2022.
