MT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball's comeback attempt fell short as the Cougars lost 8-7 to Campbell Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST CAMPBELL:

Senior Dylan Johnson served the first pitch he saw into center, scoring a pair in the first for the early 2-0 advantage.
Campbell leveled the game in the third following an RBI single from Jackson Thompson before breaking the game open with a six-run fifth to make it an 8-2 ballgame.
The Cougars cut into the deficit with three runs of their own, highlighted by back-to-back two out singles by Johnson and junior Payton Frehner.
Redshirt junior Alex Lyon didn't allow a hit over the final three frames.
Later in the bottom of the eighth, graduate Will Baumhofer tripled in Frehner before scoring on sophomore Brent Gibb's sacrifice fly to make it a one run ballgame.
With two outs in the ninth, CofC had runners on first and second but were unable to get the tying run across the plate.

OF NOTE:

Charleston falls to 15-18 all-time against Campbell.
Graduate Avery Neaves has reached base in 24 of the 26 games this season including 19 straight ballgames.
Neaves crossed the dish twice on Sunday, the 12th time he's scored multiple times.
Johnson drove in a season-best three runs on three knocks in the setback.
Johnson is the eighth different Cougar to drive in three-plus runs in a game.
Lyon appeared in his 62nd career appearance and has recorded at least six outs in 29 of those outings.
Pendergrass scored two runs in each of the three games against the Camels over the weekend.
