MT PLEASANT, S.C. – Graduate Avery Neaves and redshirt junior Ethan Plyler homered in the fifth inning to help lead College of Charleston to an 11-4 win against App State Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

The Cougars improve to 9-4 with the series win while the Mountaineers slip to 7-8 on the year.

Redshirt junior Daniel Brooks earned the victory, striking out four batters in 5.0 innings. The trio of sophomore Hayden Thomas, redshirt junior Alex Lyon and senior Davis Aiken allowed just two base runners in the final four frames.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST APP STATE:

Freshman Matthew Dominianni scored the game's first run in the second.
Down 3-1 in the third, Plyler doubled down the left field line to put Charleston within one.
Tied at four in the home half of the fifth, CofC broke the game open with a six spot.
After a Dariyan Pendergrass sacrifice fly, Neaves launched a three-run shot.
Two batters later, Plyler hit a two-run homer, giving the Cougars double-digit runs for the fifth game this season.
Graduate Will Baumhofer drove in his second run of the ballgame in the seventh, giving Charleston 11 runs on the day.

OF NOTE:

Charleston is 37-13 all-time against App State and 22-7 at home.
Three Cougars extended their hitting streaks on Sunday: Baumhofer (9), sophomore Brent Gibbs (8) and Neaves (7).
Gibbs has also reached base safely in all 10 games he's appeared in.
CofC hit two home runs in the same inning for the second time this year.
The pitching staff allowed four hits in the victory, tied for the fewest allowed (Feb. 21 against Seton Hall).
Charleston has outscored its opponents 98-26 in wins.
The Cougars worked seven walks on Sunday, the tenth time they've drawn five-or-more free passes.
