WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – College of Charleston baseball lost the series opener Friday evening to William & Mary, 5-4.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
- William & Mary plated a run in each of the first two innings before CofC leveled the contest at two in the top of the third.
- Senior Tyler Sorrentino sent a ball over the center fielder's head, tripling home senior Ben Venables.
- Sorrentino scored the tying run moments later following graduate Avery Neaves' sacrifice fly.
- Trailing 3-2 in the fifth, Sorrentino connected on his second hit of the contest, launching solo shot 359 feet for his first homer of the season.
- The Cougars took a brief 4-3 lead in the sixth before surrendering a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is now 29-13 all-time against William & Mary and 8-8 as the visitor.
- Sorrentino tallied his 48th career multi-hit game and 18th multi-RBI performance.
- Senior Dariyan Pendergrass stole his 29th base of the year, tying him with Mary Gantt (2012) for seventh all-time in program history for a single season.
- Redshirt junior Alex Lyon appeared in his 71st career game out of the bullpen with the Cougars, putting him one shy of tying Dre Watts (2010-13) for fourth all-time in school history.
- Lyon has yielded just seven walks in 47.1 frames this season.
